Dr. Peter Liggesmeyer is a Full Professor at the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany (Department of Computer Science). He holds a chair in software engineering, and is director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE). His research interests are in software engineering for embedded systems, software quality, system safety and reliability, and visualization of software systems. Dr. Liggesmeyer is the author of more than 70 publications including several books.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Liggesmeyer was a Full professor at the Hasso-Plattner-Institute for Software Systems Engineering at the University of Potsdam, Germany (2000-2004).
From 1993 to 2000 Dr. Liggesmeyer was a project manager at Siemens Corporate Technology, Munich. He was mainly involved in research and consulting activities with respect to safety and reliability analysis techniques for technical systems and quality assurance of embedded software.
He received his MS degree in electrical engineering from the University of Paderborn, Germany, in 1988 and his Ph.D. degree (1992) and his habilitation in software engineering (2000) from the University of Bochum, Germany. Dr. Liggesmeyer received the 1993 software engineering award of the German Informatics Society for his dissertation on software testing.
Dr. Liggesmeyer was a co-founder of the Special Interest Group on Software Testing of the German Informatics Society (GI). He was the speaker of the Special Interest Group on Software Engineering and he is also the speaker of the Software Engineering Division of the German Informatics Society.
Dr. Liggesmeyer consults for numerous companies on issues including software and system quality, software testing, safety and reliability.
He is the General Chair of the 23rd International Conference on Computer Safety, Reliability and Security (SAFECOMP 2004). He is Program Chair of the Software Engineering Conference 2005 and Program Co-Chair of the OBJECTDAYS 2004.
Dr. Liggesmeyer serves on the editorial boards of journals and magazines. He is a member of GI and IEEE.
