Prof. Dr. Gerhard Pfister

Gerhard Pfister received his PhD in mathematics in 1971 and the Habilitation in 1976 from the Humboldt University in Berlin. He is Professor for mathematics at the University of Kaiserslautern since 1993 where he is heading the research group for Algebraic Geometry, Computer Algebra and Singularity Theory. From 1983 to 1993 he was professor for algebraic geometry at the Humboldt University in Berlin. His research interests are Singularity Theory and the development and implementation of algorithms to solve mathematical problems by using Computer Algebra. Together with G.-M. Greuel and H. Schönemann, he develops the internationally widespread Computer Algebra system SINGULAR which is used in theoretical research as well as in applying Algebraic Geometry and Computer Algebra to real problems coming from industry. Gerhard Pfister is scientific advisor of the ITWM in the field of Computer Algebra.
